FOUNDER’S CALL
With a degree in Economics from Universidade Nova de Lisboa and Universidad de Navarra, my lifelong connection to the sea was nurtured by my family's maritime heritage. My grandfather, an Olympic sailor in the 1948 London Games and president of Clube Naval de Cascais, and my father, a sailor and founder of the Portuguese Laser Association (now ILCA), instilled in me a deep respect and passion for the ocean.
At 13, during the mid-1980s, I discovered my love for surfing. By 20, I was not only a founding member of the Portuguese Surfing Federation but also organizing local surf tournaments that quickly evolved into national and international championships.
In those days, surfing was often dismissed as a pastime for the idle, and with three siblings at home, financial pressures were real. This led me to balance my passion for the sport with the demands of the professional world, ultimately steering me into the technology sector. Despite this shift, the spirit of surfing remained central to my life—as a practitioner, father, and manager.
Over the years, I witnessed surfing in Portugal transform from a niche, rebellious activity into a mainstream, democratic pursuit, enjoyed harmoniously with the ocean. This evolution brings us to a critical juncture: balancing the commercialization of ocean activities with the imperative to preserve and restore our marine environments.
As we embrace digital technologies, we have the opportunity to ensure that ocean-dependent businesses and recreational activities are sustainable. The connection to the sea that has fueled this growth must now be what we strive to protect.

FOUNDER’S CALL
With a degree in Economics from the Universidad de Navarra, my lifelong connection to the sea is deeply rooted in my family's maritime heritage.
My grandfather, an Olympic sailor in the 1948 London Games and former president of our local nautical club in Cascais, along with my father, a sailor and founder of a national boat association, instilled in me a profound respect and passion for the ocean.
At 13, during the mid-1980s, I discovered my love for surfing. By 20, I had become a founding member of the Portuguese Surfing Federation and was organizing national and international tournaments.
Back then, surfing was often dismissed as a pastime for the idle, and with three siblings at home, financial pressures were significant. This reality led me to balance my passion for the sport with the demands of a professional career, eventually guiding me into the technology sector. Yet, the spirit of surfing has always remained central to my life.
Over the years, I’ve witnessed surfing in Portugal transform from a niche pursuit to a mainstream activity.
This evolution brings us to a pivotal moment: balancing the commercialization of ocean activities with the critical need to preserve and restore our marine environments.
As we integrate digital technologies into our lives, we have a unique opportunity to ensure that ocean-dependent businesses and recreational activities remain sustainable.
The connection to the sea that has driven this growth must now be the focus of our efforts to protect and sustain it for future generations.
